Your smog records stay on your PC
The SmogSector Windows helper works locally. Your smog records, including VIR data, vehicle details, and test results, are kept on your computer. The helper does not upload them.
Optional anonymous usage counts
When you first run the helper, it asks whether you want to share anonymous usage counts. Nothing is sent unless you say yes. If you do, the helper sends small counts to smogsector.com. Each one contains only:
- a random install ID created on your PC (not tied to you or your shop)
- the app version
- the event name: install, open, VIR captured, CSV export, or error, plus a number (for example, how many VIRs were captured) and, for errors, a general category such as “scan” or “export”
Usage counts never include names, VINs, license plates, test results, or file contents. We do not store your IP address or browser details with them.
How to turn usage counts off
Right-click the SmogSector icon in the Windows system tray and turn off Usage tracking. The helper then stops sending usage counts.
If you use smogsector.com with an account
Sign-in is handled by Cloudflare Access, using Google or a one-time email code. We receive your email address and an account ID. The shop settings, logo, records, and feedback you choose to enter or upload on the website are stored so the site can work for you. If you use the invoice scan to fill in shop settings, that file is sent to our text-recognition provider (Mistral AI) to read it.
